Description: Responsible for managing peer review and online operations for RSNA's suite of journals, assists in development of overall publication strategy.

Responsibilities Include:

  • In collaboration with Publication Directors establishes, monitors and evaluates policies, personnel, organization, work processes, products, and procedures designed to ensure high-quality, innovative, cost-effective, and timely online publication of journals and other publications.
  • Oversees and assists in the development, maintenance and analysis of manuscript tracking programs for all RSNA journals and meeting-related databases providing recommendations to Directors as needed; ensures accurate and timely delivery of reporting and production schedules.
  • Develops and documents procedures that improve overall publication workflow and efficiency, evaluates online publishing and workflow software including editing technology, makes recommendations and plans for implementation.
  • Ensures that online journals take maximum advantage of the features, functionality, and analytics available on the online hosting platform, as well as third party integrations for the benefit of readers, authors, journal reputations and business, and internal workflow.
  • Oversees and assists with establishing procedures for selection of manuscripts each year at the annual meeting, working continually with IT on system improvements.
  • Oversees and assists with the selection and solicitation of RadioGraphics manuscripts following the annual meeting, including fast-track articles.
  • Analyzes usage and other data from the online journals, creates reports, keeps track of trends, and delivers information when and where it's needed.
  • Assists the Directors in ensuring that online journals meet the requirements of policymaking bodies in scholarly publishing, academic institutions, medical education, government, and RSNA content delivery.
  • Supervises operations and online journals staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, developing, and mentoring; coordinates peer review training including cross training of journal processes; establishes plan for revised peer review and online publication workflow as needed.
  • In consultation with the Directors, establishes and monitors the budgets for peer review operations and online journal publication.
  • Serves as a resource to and participant in RSNA staff committees as appropriate including as a technical contact for the department in RSNA-wide initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6 or more years of experience in publishing environment
  • Proficient in medical terminology and medical journal publishing processes
  • Advanced proficiency in online publishing technology and processes
  • Exceptional conceptual and technical knowledge of online infrastructure and user interfaces
  • Strong reporting and analytical background
  • Proven ability to improve operational efficiency within a department
  • Strong management skills including training/supervision
  • Capable of initiative and self-direction
